Welcome to this week’s BoLS Prime Insider.  Let’s talk industry whispers, what’s coming in the week ahead, and a look behind the scenes of the studio.

Welcome back to this week’s Insider. This will be an ongoing weekly column where you get a behind the scenes look into the BoLS office, what our core team is up to, and working on, as well as what we are hearing in the industry. Our promise to Prime members was to give you greater insight into what we are up to, excited about, and what we are seeing and hearing out there in the industry.

Remember you can always hop into the DISCORD channel and directly chat any of us up or ask questions. So enjoy and don’t be a stranger. On with the show.

First of all, the GW Mystery product was revealed; Warhammer Quest – Cursed City. It wasn’t Battlefleet Gothic so we will have to want and see how good this 4th title is. Warhammer Quest has had a spotty run with Silver Tower (HIT), Hammerhal (miss), and Blackstone Fortress (so-so).

Dark Angels & Marines

Dark Angels are coming and not a moment too soon. It’s good to see GW kicking out codexes rapid-fire again to kick-off 2021. They have a long way to go, but we’ll take what we can get. The codex will probably in line with the previous Blood Angel and Space Wolves books, but the more exciting part is the minis. Everyone and their brother is hyped for more Eradicators, Bladeguard, and the sexy new Stormspeeder.

We should have a review copy soon, so look for coverage of all the new goodies this weekend. I’m really curious to see how the Sotrmspeeder feels in size next to the Impulsor, and the Rhino Chassis, as well side by side with the classic Landspeeder.

The Clone Wars

Asmodee is finally taking the covers off the Clone Wars ships for Star Wars ARMADA, and wow have they taken their time. It’s been well over a year and we are just getting pics of new ships. I look forward to seeing how all the Star Wars games do once they move from FFG over to Atomic Mass Games.  I’m expecting a major shakeup to drum up excitement and sales.

The Dark Angels are getting a new Codex this weekend for Pre-Order – and then maybe, just maybe we’ll get a break from Space Marines for a while. That said, they (space marines) are getting a ton of great models this weekend. I’m legit excited about that. Mostly because I want to see how big some of these kits are. Aside from that, I’m also really excited about the new Warhammer Quest and Warcry Warband. I’ve always like Vampire Counts but I just never got around to making an army for them. I even busted out my old Warhammer Armies: Vampire Counts book to do some research on them this week. I might be starting another Death army in the near future.

Maybe plastic Blood Knights that aren’t 100$…

Saint Maude – the horror movie of 2020 that I was most looking forward to – is finally coming out this weekend on digital and select theaters. It’s gotten some great reviews, as well. I’m an A24 fangirl and a sucker for religious-themed horror. On top of that, writer/director Rose Glass’ shorts are brilliant. I definitely have plans for Saturday night.

Maud is a reclusive young nurse whose impressionable demeanor causes her to pursue a pious path of Christian devotion after an obscure trauma. Now charged with the hospice care of Amanda, a retired dancer ravaged by cancer, Maud’s fervent faith quickly inspires an obsessive conviction that she must save her ward’s soul from eternal damnation, whatever the cost.

My Friday will be spent with Vision, Wanda, and S.W.O.R.D. followed by this year’s first dual release from Warner Brothers: The Little Things. This crime thriller stars Denzel Washington, Jared Leto, and Remi Malek. A Kern County Deputy Sheriff gets wrapped up in a murder case in LA. A case that may be his personal undoing. There’s a lot of Oscar buss around this one.

One of the hard parts of being a writer, especially for a website, is having to write about things that people like. Things that people will read. It’s not something that bothers me all the time or causes me pain, it’s part of the job, but it can be a drag. There are times when we have to forego writing about minutia that we might really like in favor of topics that we like less. For instance, if you read my articles it might appear that I really like Space Marines, after all, I write about them all the time (though maybe not as much as Goatboy writes about CSM).

The fact is that Marines aren’t my favorite army, far from it. As I’ve said many times, Imperial Guard are my true love. I don’t dislike Marines, but I wouldn’t say I like them much more than half a dozen other factions. So why do I write about them so much? Well, that’s simple, y’all, the readers, really like reading about them. Our data suggests that you like reading about Marines around twice as much as the next most popular army, and up to 4 times as much as some other factions. With popularity like that, I pretty much have to write about Marines, rather than penning endless tomes to the might of the IG. Alas.

My work week has been nuts – and I don’t expect it to get less for awhile.  I still love the new Death Guard book – somewhat excited about the Dark Angels of Chaos – and look forward to what is coming next.

The rest of this week is figuring out some more articles, knocking out some illustration work, finishing the last bits of a commission, and maybe knocking out a few more Death Guard to get my army started. The LVO Nopen is this weekend so I hope to get some time to watch a game or two – especially the Bashbros new version that looks similar to what I was thinking about.  As usual Death to the False Emperor!

Hello and Happy Friday Adventurers! I can’t believe January is almost over already. It feels like yesterday was Christmas. But I guess time flies when a million things are happening in the world at the same time.

Next week we’ll be playing D&D with some of the biggest monsters of the moment, spending a little more time with the new High Republic, and I’ll be window shopping through some of the weirdest dice I can find.

~Talk to all you folks next week!
