After my last article I did some research. In order to get over my slump with 8th I’ve decided to pick up….

Eldar in 40K

My main reason: I like the elegant, almost art deco, look of the models. The paint scheme options are rather diverse, as well – really digging the bright, poppy paint schemes some folks are using.

The play style is a departure from my WFB army. More finesse, less stompy. There’s plenty of shooting and vehicles available to choose from – neither of which I’m extremely used to using. Heck, I’ve never used a vehicle in an army before.

I like the look of the Harlequin models, so I’d like to include them in a list. Thinking Dire Avengers and Guardians are a must. I’d like to fit a Wraithlord in somewhere because the model is awesome. Does anyone have advice for an Eldar newb? What should I be/not taking?

In addition to the advice I’ve been given about 40k, several folks suggested that I look into Warmachine. Some friends have picked up the game in the last several months and filled me in on the mechanics. The game sounds like a good fit for what I’d like to play: small scale [everything can fit in one bag], fast, and definitely different than WFB. I spent some time on the Privateer Press website this week to take a look at the models and the fluff.

I dig the look and zombie-like origins of Cryx – and they are an underrepresented force here in town. The new plastic battle boxes look awesome, and reasonably priced for my college student budget. I know many say they are among the more powerful army in the game, so I’m not really sure if I want to go with them. Any Warmachine players have any suggestions? We’re overrun with Khador, so I’d like to avoid them.

So, can some veteran Eldar and Warmachine players offer some more brilliant advice for a newb this week?
