Bushido’s Deathwing Tutorial

Hey everyone, a couple people have asked exactly how I paint my Deathwing so here is a tutorial.

As with all my projects, I start out with a wet pallete

As primer, I use Krylon Grey Primer that you should be able to get at Walmart or Home Depot for a couple bucks.  It has REALLY worked well for me.  Once it’s primed, I was the entire model with Badab Black.

Then I go over all of the armor plates with two coats of Dheneb Stone, leaving the recesses unpainted.

I separated the chain fist to give me a little better access to the aquila on his torso.  The next step is Vallejo Cold Grey on parts of the model.

Yes, yes, I used a space wolf chain fist.  At least I ground off the other wolfy stuff, not much I can do about the runes though without lots of extra work.  I’ll fix it later.  The next step is some P3 Sanguine Base on the gun.  This is one of my favorite colors and I liked the look on the storm bolters.

From there I used Vallejo Scarlett Red as a highlight, as well as a base for the purity seals and his eyes.

The next step is Vallejo Dark Green on the symbol on the shoulder pad and the torso.

Followed by a highlight of Vallejo Sick Green.

After that is the first layer of of the NMM gold, using Vallejo Leather Brown.

The second layer of the NMM is Iyanden Darksun…

From there, I moved to the base layer of the purity seals, Vallejo Terra Earth.

The reason I jumped to the purity seals from the NMM, was because they both use Vallejo Bone White next.

Sorry for the terrible pictures, I only have my iPhone to take the pics and its tough to do macro sometimes.  Then I went to Vallejo Bloody Red as a highlight to the purity seals and eyes.  Vallejo Stonewall Grey to highlight the darker grey, and Vallejo Dead White to highlight the armor itself as well as the final layer of the NMM and on the purity seals

Then some quick touch ups and fixed to finish it off.  Then I just mounted him to the already completed base.

So there it is, start to finish on one of my Deathwing termies.  Sorry again for the bad pictures, hopefully I’ll be able to pick up a new camera pretty soon.

~Feel free to AmA.  You can check out more about my Deathwing over on Fly Lords of Terra.
