It turns out there are some big differences between the Stormcast “Eternals” and the Space Marines…

We all know that one of the biggest complaints over the decades is:

“Why no female Space Marines?”

I shudder at just mentioning the question, is it ALWAYS leads off into the weeds with threads like this one, and gamers throwing pans at each other…

Still though, when the “Totally Not Space Marines” wielding “Totally Not sci-fi Weapons” Stormcast Eternals made thier appearance, folks noticed the models were all male – again.  And you know what that leads to:

“Why no female Stormcast Eternals?”

Really it was only a matter of time.

What WAS surprising was the answer…

Check out this question and answer form Black Library author Josh Reynolds:

Q: Is is possible that any of the stormcast eternals were women, or members from one of the other races like aelfs and duardim?
A: I actually asked about that. The answer I was given was…possibly? It’s being left vague intentionally, was my understanding. Nothing stopping you saying yours are aelfs or whatever, if you want.
So there you have it.  It turns out that GW has left the Stormcast Eternal line open for all kinds of future expansion.  The Age of Sigmar hardcover’s descriptions of the aspirants taken to be forged Stormcasts are simply the “mightiest of mankind’s warriors” . One day we may even see Female Stormcast models.  I bet they would sell like hotcakes.
Pretty good job there GW, leaving them open to future expansion.

PS, extra Age of Sigmar lore bonus round:

Read this answer from Josh regarding the Stormcasts and whether Sigmar could actually be defeated:
“Q: So, when Stormcast Eternals are beaten on the battlefield they don’t die, but are sent back to Azyrheim to respawn and fight again. I mean, woah. Not even Chaos champions get that sort of power. How exactly can Sigmar fail in his reconquest? And where’s the tension if his army can just respawn?

A: They’re sent back to undergo the Reforging…basically, they’re broken down into base components and remade from the soul up. But there’s always a little less of that soul left every time…fewer memories, less personality, less humanity. They could win every battle, but still lose the war.

And Sigmar could indeed fail. Reforging isn’t a mechanical process…it’s a mystic one. It takes longer for some than others, and gets more difficult every time. Too, eventually the remains of the world-that-was will run out, meaning no new weapons or armour for the Reforged. So he can’t just spend his warriors like bullets. And what if the Chaos gods figure out what he’s done? What if they figure out some way of attacking Azyr directly? If Slaanesh can be kidnapped, if Nagash can be broken, then Sigmar could certainly be killed…

And of course Chaos has a similar power already…they’re just not interested in repairing broken toys…”

~ Anyone want to open the betting pool on whether we will see plastic Sisters of Battle before or after Plastic female Stormcast Eternals? 🙂
