One old school Rumormonger is dropping info on a new Boxed Game from Games Workshop – check out the latest for “Imperial Knights: Renegade”

I’ve got some good news and bad news folks. Bad news is that after spotting new Orruks online, the rumorsphere is saying no Orruks in the next WD. Looks like it might be another week before they get their big reveal. The Good news is GW is putting together a new boxed game and it looks like one SWEET deal if it pans out. Apply salt and read on:

No Orruks in the next WD.

New boxed game called “Imperial Knight: Renegade” instead (1 Imperial Knight, 1 IK Warden and 1 Sanctum Imperialis + rules)
165€ / £120 / $195 / and for once the real prices for all to see: CA$ 235 / AU$ 245 / NZ$ 290 / 22.000 Yen

So both a huge price but a huge discount at the same time, making it a pretty solid choice if you want 2 Knights. Too bad the large difference between the UK and Euro price will make us incapable of competing vs UK retailers.

Game is derived from the minigame they did in the WD around the Stormsurge release if I remember correctly, the one were each superheavy had its own datasheet, with damage locations and numbers everywhere. Game includes specific decals for each knight allowing you to decorate one of them as a renegade Knight. No Chaos specific sprues thought (those are the regular models already sold in stores).

Okay – I’m curious as I do enjoy giant robot mayhem as much as the next 40k fan, but lets do some quick math…

1 Imperial Knight$140

1 Imperial Knight Warden – $157

1 Sanctum Imperialis – $33

Total: $330

That’s not counting any other accessories that may be included like dice, templates, measuring sticks or the rules pack.  Even if you skip all those things you’re looking at a 40% discount! Or another way to look at it – if you were going to buy a Knight for $157 bucks for another $40 you could get a second knight and a terrain kit.

Regardless of how you feel about Knights in the game anytime we see deep discounts direct from GW it’s a good move in my book. And if this game really does have a separate Data Sheet with damage locations and numbers…well I’ve still got some old Battletech/Mechwarrior books lying around and would seriously consider setting up a mini-campaign for some Knights. Heck, I’ll watch Robot Jox while I’m at it…and then Pacific Rim after that so my ‘Nids don’t feel left out. Now that’s the game I want to play…

Someone queue up the theme music – it’s time to get to work!
