Will we ever see those fortification kits? That’s a BIG maybe. Come find out where they came from.

For a while now, I’ve been hoping that Games Workshop would release those awesome looking Ossiarch Bonereaper Fortification kits. You know the ones:

Yeah. Those beautiful kits. As I’ve said before – those things are too perfect to be one-off hand sculpts. They had to be designed in 3D. Turns out, they were and are 3D sculpts.

I got a tip from one of our local AoS Players about this one. In this timestamp, painter Jay Goldfinch explains the origins of the fort to Wade on Stormcast – Episode 33.

Jay Goldfinch: Yes I did. That was an amazing project cause it was the first one where Seb jumped on board. He sculpted and designed… I…I tell the story like it’s true, I’m sure it is…during a lunch break. So one meeting, with Tom saying ‘oh what should we do – in your mind for the scenery for them’ and I think rather than kind of saying it, he simply sculpted it over the course of a lunch break and a morning. Next thing we know it’s all done. You’ve got these amazing walls, you’ve got this amazing gate, uh, and they then got printed off. And then we just literally stuck them together. The main extravagant part was the tower that I then built. So…it was a case of ‘we’ve got our walls, we’ve got our fortifications but, you know, is there anything more we could add to that? Ya know.’ It can’t just be…there’s got to be more behind those walls as it were.

So there you have it. The walls ARE 3D sculpted – which is why they look so uniform. They DO have the files (or at least I sure hope so). And they are able to just “print them off” – apparently fairly quickly.

I don’t know what the ramp-up time is to get those files printed off for mass production. However, I know that GW would sell at least one copy to a certain hobbyist and fan of the Ossiarch Bonereapers (it’s ME). Those walls are too cool to just be one-offs for the studio to take pictures with. Although it’s not surprising they have the ability to do just that. One the plus side we know that these walls and gate are not custom plastic card kit-bashes like the Sigmarite Fortress.

On the down side it doesn’t sound like the Tower was part of those designs and it also doesn’t sound like GW has plans to sell them…yet. At least I can rest assured that there is some more Bonereaper stuff coming down the pipe.

They have the files. They know what to do…
