Join us this week as we explore the incredible mind of Evette’s Niche! A young artist and engineer have built an amazing studio of creative fantasy, where the mundane is elevated to the exceptional, and everyday items are personified in a bright, unique new way.

While Cosplay creation and Costuming is a lush genre full of a thousand recreations and constructions, I would like to take some time today to highlight the truly unique and wonderful art of my friend Evette’s Niche. I met this young lady a few years ago at an Austin Con and was immediately inspired by her. Her mind is constantly thrumming with new ideas, and her way of bringing concepts to life is vivid, lush, and absolutely unforgettable. It isn’t often that work of her type is appreciated, so we’re going to be taking a few weeks to really show off what she’s got. Each one of her concepts is completely and totally original and is created entirely from a vision in her mind. Evette’s unique blend of inspiration, improvisation, and innovation results in the most stunning and striking images I have ever seen. I hope you enjoy her work as much as I do.

What projects are you working on in the future?

Let’s just say, Dalí-ve that up to chance.

Who are your biggest artistic inspirations? Whose work do you admire or aspire to?

Sasha Velour right now is my big idol. Also Sebastian Matsuda. I want to be on a red carpet. From performing or just creating.

What are your favorite movies/shows to watch or music to listen to while you craft?

Currently listening to the Three Body Problem series. I’ll often listen to Chinese or Japanese podcasts to practice learning. Or I’m singing show tunes. Also podcasts. Love podcasts.

What message do you have for people wanting to break into visual arts? What have you learned in your time working in this medium?

Do it. Everyone has something to learn from art. Mostly about ourselves. The only way to get better is to do it. And not be afraid to fail. Do you remember any famous artists first painting ever? No. Because it was bad. You have to get the first 1000 paintings out of the way first. Scroll back in my Instagram if you want proof. It’s embarrassing. But it’s part of my story so I won’t delete it. We all have to accept the journey. I know it sounds cheesy but trust me. Just start. Whatever your heart tells you to do. Even if it’s dim or quiet. Just do whatever comes to mind first. You have to get out of your own way.  Also, don’t be afraid to reach out to people that are “better than you.” They often turn into good peers, friends or helpers!

What do you do with your time outside of creating? Any special skills or experiences? Areas of study?

I’m an engineering student. I am an actor. I dance. And I do photography almost full time.

What are your social media/website links? Where can we find you?
