Games Workshop has done a great job of recreating classic models from the range and updating them in the latest edition. Here are a few of our favorites.

You might love or hate Primaris Marines as a concept – but either way you have to appreciate the opportunity it afforded Games Workshop to make new models for old characters. The great part is that GW managed to bring in some OTHER characters and update them as part of the 40k range and it’s been great to see. These are a few of our favorite updates.

Mephiston

The Mephiston update is one of our favorites around. Why? Well, we’ve got a soft-spot for the Blood Angels for one. But more importantly, we love that you can build the new model with a big nod to the old art work – and we really dig that!

And compared to the old model…this new one just blows it away.

At least the new model gave Mephiston actual arms…that’s an improvement.

Ghazghkull Thraka

The mightest Ork Warlord to live got a new model and it’s fan-freakin-tastic! Shout out to Makari, but the big boss is just too cool. The quad-dakka gun, the massive power klaw, the (somehow) even bigger head – yeah, this model is crazy awesome!

Jain Zar

Sleek and graceful we were going back and forth between the Jain Zar update and Drazhar (or even Lelith). We stuck with Jain Zar because we hope this becomes the new template for the rest of the Phoenix Lords. Not only did she get a great update, but so did the rest of the Howling Banshees. Emperor knows the Aspect Warriors could use some love…

Abaddon

We couldn’t include a list of amazing updated models and not include Abaddon! We love that this model has a few different heads and even options with or with a cape. But most importantly, Abaddon looks like he’s the Warmaster of Chaos. While a bunch of the chaos characters got updates, Abaddon not only got an update but he got physically larger, too. This was a great update!

Illuminor Szeras

This one came out of left field! The Necrons have a ton of different characters but who would have suspected that Illuminor Szeras would have been the one to get a fantastic new model? He was somewhat of a minor character before the update but when the new edition rolled out he got a boost in importance – and the new model helped reinforce that. Szeras is no minor player these days in the lore and he’s now one of the coolest Necron characters around!

There have been so many awesome updated models – what are some of your favorites?
