Mike Flanagan’s The Fall of the House of Usher is a remix of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic and other works.

Mike Flanagan’s latest project with Netflix has started filming. The director has tackled Stephen King, Shirley Jackson, Henry James, and now one of the original masters of horror: Edgar Allen Poe.

The Fall of the House of Usher will be a “remix” of Poe’s work and stream on Netflix. The logo tells me that a famous poem will be included in the mix. I hope the director has picked some lesser-known works for this show.

For me, Flanagan’s work has been hit or miss. I enjoyed Midnight Mass but was bored and frustrated with Haunting at Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. I’m not sure about this Poe remix, but it’s much too early in the game to have much of an opinion. Let’s hope for something good, shall we?

It does step out on the right foot with a stellar starting cast.

Frank Langella is playing the towering patriarch of the Usher dynasty, Roderick Usher. Mary McDonnell will play Madeline Usher; Carl Lumbly will play Le Chevalier C. Auguste Dupin; plus Mark Hamill and Carla Gugino in unknown roles.

There’s no release date yet as it’s early in the process. Netflix confirmed that the series will be self-contained like Flanagan’s other series, which means we can expect 8-10 sixty-minute episodes.
