Paramount is gathering the reboot trilogy cast for Star Trek 4. Plus Transformers, Halo, and a deluge of animation for all ages.

As part of Viacom’s investor day, Paramount dropped a bunch of news about upcoming projects for streaming and theaters. Let’s start with the biggest: Star Trek. It’s been six years since fans have gotten a big-screen Star Trek story. That changes in 2023 – after a lot of fits and starts, Star Trek 4 is finally underway.

Deadline has confirmed that Paramount is moving forward with producer J.J. Abrams and director Matt Shakman (Game of Thrones, WandaVision). The studio is also in talks with the cast from the reboot movies– Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Lieutenant Uhura, Karl Urban as Dr. Bones McCoy, John Cho as Sulu, and Simon Pegg as Scotty. The plot for Star Trek 4 is still under wraps.

More On Paramount’s Schedule

That’s the big news, but that’s not everything going on at the studio. Another installment of the Quiet Place franchise has been greenlit with director Michael Sarnoski at the helm. That’s due in 2025.

Transformers

Transformers: Rise of the Beast will debut next year. It’s being directed by Steven Caple Jr. and will star Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback. The live-action movie is set in 1994 and will have a look and tone like the Bay films. Rise of the Beast will be the first of three new installments joining the franchise.

An untitled CG animated Transformers movie will debut in 2024 and a new animated show will debut on Nickelodeon this fall.

A big chunk of the announcements has to do with bulking up the streaming service’s offerings. Here are some highlights. You can check out all of the details on Paramount’s Twitter feed.

Animation is going to be big. Announced ahead of his big-screen debut this April– Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba) is getting a Paramount+ spin-off series. A second season of Halo: The Series has been greenlit before the debut of the show next month.

“Halo is an expansive, world-building opportunity for Paramount+, and we’re thrilled to give fans a second season to look forward to before we launch the series next month. Halo will deliver a thrill-ride for fans of the game and non-gamers alike, as it ties together stunning visuals with a deeper look at the personal stories behind these iconic characters, all set within an epic battle for the future of humanity.”

That’s a lot of new titles for fans to look forward to. Is it enough for folks to pick up another streaming service? Paramount is certainly hoping so.
