One of the best parts of D&D is finding so many magical items you could open up a shop. These legendary magic swords are a great start!

If you’ve ever been to a mall, you know the kind of store. It seems like it still somehow exists in 2002. You can buy swords, knives, rocks, crystals, and all sorts of vaguely occult things mixed in with “water pipes” and accoutrements. That’s pretty much what every shop in D&D is.

And with these five magic swords, you’ll have some wares to hawk when your adventuring days are done. I guess you could also use them in your adventures, since they’re pretty cool.

Moonblade

This is one of the rarer sentient magic items. Blackrazor gets all he love. But a Moonblade sounds exactly like the kind of sword you could buy in a mall. Created by elves to be extremely elf-y. These swords are passed down through families to worthy bearers. A moonblade can only ever serve one master at a time, and no one else who picks it up can wield it properly.

Every wielder who the Moonblade deems worthy is granted a special rune that can do anything from increase the critical threat range of the sword, to give it new magical abilities, even make it do more damage.

Nepenthe

This weapon is definitely evil. It’s not necessarily cursed. Especially since it’s really good at taking out other evil creatures. You won’t find respite nor Nepenthe out in the night’s Plutonian shore, though you will find it in Ravenloft, which is the nearest thing.

And if you do, it’s great. Because this sword deals 2d10 extra radiant damage, is a +3 weapon, and grants the bearer the ability to attempt to parry an attack.

Holy Avenger

A classic weapon that every Paladin wants on their mantle. This grants you an aura of magical resistance, giving you and all friendly creatures within 10 feet advantage on your saving throws. It’s a 30 foot aura if you’re a Paladin of 17th level or higher. You can also deal an extra 2d10 radiant damage, like Nepenthe, to undead and fiends.

Sun Blade

This is basically a lightsaber made of sunlight. It’s an empty hilt that, when activated, projects a blade of pure radiance into existence. Not only that, it deals radiant damage instead of slashing damage, and casts bright lit out to 15 feet, and dim light out to 30.

If that’s not mall fodder, I don’t know what is.

Ruinblade

And finally we get to this sword, which is full of dark power. It’s a +2 weapon that also reflects the world around it in a state of decay. It has other powers, sure, but this is dark and edgy enough to be worth a small fortune for the effect alone.

What weapons are you selling when you retire from adventuring and open up shop?
