There are a ton of upcoming Star Wars streaming shows and movies on the horizon and this is what we know about them.

Between movies and streaming television shows, it seems like we will be getting new Star Wars content steadily for the foreseeable future. There are a ton of upcoming projects and while we know a ton about some of them, others are almost entirely a mystery. Here’s what we know about the upcoming Star Wars shows and movies.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

The next show to premier, Kenobi, is making its debut on May 27th with weekly Wednesday releases after. It will follow Obi-Wan as portrayed about ten years after the rise of the Empire as he tries to keep ahead of the Jedi-hunting inquisitors. We’ll also see him protect Luke Skywalker but keep his distance at the request of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru.

Both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen will be returning for this show. This show will also be a little on the darker side. McGregor has more say in the story than he did in the prequel films. He told Vanity Fair that he thought the show “should be a story about a broken man, a man who’s lost his faith.” It’s also been said that the initial script had to be toned down a little because it was too bleak.

Andor

Expected to be streaming on our screens in late summer, Diego Luna is back to reprise his role from Rogue One in Andor. Not much is known about this yet, but we do know that Genevieve O’Reilly will be back as Rebel leader Mon Mothma. Perhaps this is before, or possibly the story of, Cassian Andor becoming one of her top agents. The show will feature the Empire destroying Andor’s birth world and taking a grip of his adopted world. Luna describes it as a migrant’s journey and says we will see how these things shape Cassian as a character.

The Mandalorian Season 3

The next season of the Mandalorian is anticipated to premiere late this year or possibly early next year. At this time no trailers or plot details have been revealed, but after how The Book of Boba Fett played out earlier this year, I wouldn’t be surprised if Din and Grogu took a trip to what remains of Mandalore. Pedro Pascal will be returning as the titular Mandalorian with Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon and Carl Weathers as Greef Karga. But we will also see the legendary Christopher Lloyd in a yet unknown role.

Ahsoka

Ahsoka is expected to come out sometime next year, but it’s only just started filming. Rosario Dawson will be back as Snips. The actress may have accidentally revealed via  Twitter post that Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Natasha Liu Bordizzo has joined the cast as Sabine Wren and Mena Massoud has been cast in an unannounced role (my money’s on Ezra Bridger). Mary Elizabeth Winstead has also been announced, though we don’t know who she’ll be portraying. It seems likely that this show will follow Ahsoka Tano as she searches for Ezra and Grand Admiral Thrawn.

The Acolyte

We’re excited for The Acolyte to bring something a little different to the galaxy. It will take place roughly a hundred years before The Phantom Menace. It’s supposed to portray a time before Jedi were seen as selfless monks. The galaxy will still seem shiny and new. Show-runner Leslye Headland described it as the galactic “Renaissance or the Age of Enlightenment.” It will show us how the galaxy got to the point where a Sith lord could infiltrate the Senate without anyone noticing.

Rogue Squadron

Originally scheduled for a December 2023 release, Rogue Squadron will follow the legendary Rebel starfighter squadron. It’s being directed by Wonder Woman‘s Patty Jenkins. At this time we can’t be sure if this project is still on schedule for a December 2023. It may have been pushed back or back-burnered. Information regarding plot and casting has been kept quiet.

Future Star Wars show known by code name “Grammar Rodeo” has a casting call out. The show, named in reference to an episode of The Simpsons, is looking for four children around elven or twelve years of age. It’s being described as a galactic coming-of-age story. It’s rumored to take place during the reconstruction of the Republic after the fall of the Empire.

Taika Waititi’s Unnamed Movie & Rian Johnson’s Unnamed Trilogy

Tragically, we know nothing about these aside from that they are coming…. or not. Taika Waititi’s  unnamed project is expected to hit screens before Rogue Squadron. But the Rian Johnson trilogy has been put indefinitely on the back-burner due to his busy schedule.

What Star Wars show and movies are you most excited for? What do you think the movies we still have little knowledge of will be about? Do you understand the ‘grammar rodeo’ reference? Let us know in the comments!
