What’s Going On With Cyberpunk 2077?
After a maligned launch and months of updates, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a massive patch, an anime, and an expansion.
Cyberpunk 2077 released in December of 2020 to much fanfare. Unfortunately, at launch, the game had …issues. But the damage was done and a lot of the goodwill fans had towards it’s developers seemed to have been burned up. But that didn’t stop CD Projekt Red from continuing to work on it and improve the game post launch. Back in February, after months of patches version 1.5 hit the stage. Was it finally time to start playing it for real?
Since that update a lot more has changed for the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. For starters, the new Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Anime now has a release date (September 13, 2022) and full trailer.
There’s also a NSFW version, too.
Earlier this week, the video game also got another big update with patch 1.6. This one added some nice QoL updates like Transmog, Cross-Platform saves, and more.
And finally, we also got another big announcement: the video game is finally getting its first (and likely only) paid expansion.
“Get ready for Phantom Liberty — a spy-thriller expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 set in an all new district of Night City. Coming in 2023 to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia.”
From the look of the trailer it seems like our protagonist V has “enlisted” in the “New United States of America” in some capacity. It also sounds like Johnny Silverhand isn’t too pleased. Aside from that we get a look at some new guns and a few short cutscenes without too much else to go on. We do have a new female character who we can assume is the one V is talking to. But that’s about it. There is also an ambiguous “2023” date that pops-up at the end of the video as well.
So with all these Cyberpunk 2077 Updates… what is going on with Cyberpunk 2077? Is it time to fire the game back up and take a trip into Night City? The game is objectively better than it was at launch. So if you waited out the storm (or just skipped it on the first go) now isn’t the worst time to jump in. In fact this is probably a better time to give it a go without all the baggage from the rocky launch.
Considering the updates and improvements I might just fire it up again, too. I know the Anime series is a 10-episode “standalone” story but there could be some nods to the game and other easter eggs hidden in the show. So getting re-familiarized with the game world won’t be a bad thing, either.
Will I finally be able to live out my Night City Cyberpunk dreams? Time to reboot and find out.
