Age of Sigmar: Summer of Seraphon And The Updated Roadmap

We’re pumped about the Summer of Seraphon coming but we’ve got 5 more books dropping in the spring. What could those be?

In case you missed the news Games Workshop dropped a batch of previews for the Seraphon. The best part is that these weren’t even half of the models on the way! The bad news is that we’re going to have to wait until summer. That was a little bit of a bummer but mostly because of the anticipation.

Summer of Seraphon

We also got this updated Battletome Roadmap for Age of Sigmar. Beast of Chaos and Gloomspite Gitz are out this weekend so that’s great. And the Seraphon are landing squarely in the summer now. Also good to know! But now we’ve got a massive gap in the spring of 5 books and all we know are their grand alliances.

Before the Warhammer Online Previews we had our predictions. We got a more than a few correct. But the previews really threw our expectations for AoS out of whack. Here’s our previous guesses as to the order of the books being released:

Spring

  • Order – Seraphon
  • Chaos – Blades of Khorne
  • Chaos – Hedonites of Slaanesh
  • Death – Ossiarch Bonereapers
  • Death – Flesh Eater Courts

Summer

  • Order – Kharadron Overlords

But now we know the Seraphon are coming in the summer and the rest of them are also up in the air as well. We got a couple of clues as to what factions could be next though…

There are two new warbands coming to Warcry. One is from the Soulblight Gravelords and the other is for the Blades of Khorne. And wouldn’t you know it, those two armies don’t have 3rd edition books yet…

Now, I know you might be thinking, “well what about the Daughters of Khaine Warband? Does that mean they are getting a new book, too?” I don’t think so. Mostly because they recently got a brand new Battletome. And while there were some changes to it in the FAQ, nothing so drastic is needed as a complete redo.

A new warband doesn’t immediately mean a new Battletome either. But considering both the Soulblight Gravelords and the Blades of Khorne are technically using older books still it makes some sense. The only counterpoint against the Soulblight is that their book was the last 2nd edition book to be released and was designed as a book for both 2nd and 3rd.

Personally, I’m kind of hoping GW keeps the Soulblight for a little bit later and fills out their ranks with more from these new Askurgan Trueblades. An entire army of vampire monks sounds bloody cool! Anyhow, what does that mean for the new predictions for those 5 books coming in the spring? Here’s what we do know about the releases:

Yet-To-Be Announced

Order

  • Cities of Sigmar/Dawnbringer Crusade
  • Kharadron Overlords

Chaos

  • Hedonites of Slaanesh
  • Blades of Khorne

Death

  • Flesh-Eater Courts
  • Ossiarch Bonereapers
  • Soulblight Gravelords

The Dawnbringers are coming way later based on the previews GW has shown. That army probably isn’t arriving until the end of 2023. So our logic from previous predictions still holds up. I just think the order has been shuffled a bit.

Spring

  • Order – Kharadron Overlords
  • Chaos – Blades of Khorne
  • Chaos – Hedonites of Slaanesh
  • Death – Flesh Eater Courts
  • Death – Soulblight Gravelords*

Summer

  • Order – Seraphon (confirmed)

*There’s only 1 Order book that hasn’t been announced and only two more Chaos books. The two death books are the real mystery here. And honestly it could go in any order of release for them as technically all three of those books (Flesh Eater Courts, Soulblight Gravelords, and the Ossiarch Bonereapers) are all 2nd edition versions.

If I’m being completely honest, I’m hoping OBR get a later release so GW can really redo that army’s rules. They may function with the White Dwarf and FAQ updates…but fundamentally they need their Relentless Discipline ability reworked. But that’s another topic altogether.
