The Amazing Spider-Men jump from video game into comic once more to celebrate Free Comic Book Day.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the year’s most anticipated games. The game was officially announced during one of Sony’s PlayStation Showcases in 2021 with a voiceover by Kraven the Hunter and the reveal that Venom would also be one of the main antagonists. Since then, Insomniac Games and Sony have been slowly giving any info on the game as well as its release date. Most of the info we have gotten on the game has either Insomniac devs letting something slip or from an actor in the game.

Insomniac still is tight-lipped on the game’s info and wants to give fans more of the universe they created. So they had a special announcement.

Here Comes the Spider-Men!

Insomniac, Marvel, and PlayStation have announced that the game will be getting a prequel story in a comic being released on May 6th for Free Comic Book Day.

Written by Christos Gage and with art by Ig Guara, the comic will take place after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The story will show what Peter, MJ, and Miles have been up to since defeating Doctor Octopus and The Tinkerer. Insomniac describes the synopsis as an adventure involving the trio facing the unmeasurable:

“What if Peter, Miles, and MJ had to team up against a new Super Villain whose powers they didn’t understand? In this story, their lives collide as Peter, Miles, and MJ attempt to balance their responsibilities to the city, and each other. They keep coming back to one of the main themes of the comic: is magic real? Because in this action-packed issue, a beloved Super Villain makes their first appearance in our universe and appears to have supernatural abilities that defy mere webs and fists: none other than The Hood!”

Marvel has a much larger synopsis with the idea that Miles is not sure what his future holds past his schooling now that he is Spider-Man, Peter is dealing with the aftermath of what happened in the first game, and MJ is working on what is next for her after getting back together with Peter.

The idea of the comic is to bridge the gap between games in a way that isn’t just audio or text logs as well as giving more within the world. This isn’t the first time the series has been put into comic book form. Spider-Geddon #0 was the first time they entered comics with a story against the Tarantula and even got a special standalone story that gives the backstory on one of the original suits in the game. Fans could also re-live the story of the original game and it’s DLC in comic form as well. Speaking of the original game, Insomniac had one last thing to announce.

Spider-Man Remastered

When Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales was announced, Insomniac also let everyone know a special PS5 version of the first game would be released as well. It would have upgraded graphics, ray tracing, all the DLC, new costumes, and 60 FPS gameplay. Unfortunately, the only way to get this version was you had to buy the Ultimate Edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Well worry no more PS5 owners, Insomniac announced Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered would be finally sold as a standalone title after almost 3 years. The game will have an upgrade path for any owners of the PS4 versions for $10 now with new owners being able to buy the game for USD 49.99 on the PS Store.

The PS5 Remastered is the best way to replay the first game and was also made with the brand new Peter Parker face to match how he will look in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and how he looks in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

As someone who has beaten both games tons of times and read all the comics PlayStation Spider-Man has appeared in, this is some fun news. Here is hoping the comic will have some more info on what could happen in the sequel!

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to release in Fall 2023 for PS5

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is available through Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 Ultimate Edition and is to release later this month on the PS store standalone for PS5
