Goatboy’s Grimdark Armylist – Adeptus Custodes Don’t Need Forge World

Goatboy here and it appears Adeptus Custodes survived the balance update. They don’t need Forge World to win.

Of course they are not the most egregious of the issue armies but they are sure near the top of the pile of good lists to bring to an event.  I want to think of a list that doesn’t use FW currently as I can expect those things to get a hit due to Aeldari also having some bad FW overpowered nonsense.

The biggest issue with the Adeptus Custodes list is that it doesn’t have the best anti vehicle beyond just punching it to death.  This isn’t a bad thing as usually if you are assaulting something with Custodes you are beating the crap out of it.  The army just seems designed to wreck face in close combat.

Heck it is one of the few Assault armies that works just due to how it can survive to get in there.  It takes Devastating wounds as well as it takes high damage firepower. It has options to be tough, and it can limit what you can do to it.  This makes it extremely hard for opposing armies to crack and most likely makes the Custodes frustrating to play against.

It does have a seemingly bad matchup versus Knights but I think if the terrain walls covered better  and thus limiting the power of Towering it might not be nearly as much of a slam dunk.  Plus Custodes can survive a ton of the firepower that comes at them too.  Either way – this is what I would play if I could bring a non FW option army to a team event.

Adeptus Custodes – Forge World is for Suckas not Luvahs!

Using the Adeptus Custodes List

I went with the Vindicare as he could be a really annoying unit.  Everything else is just basically set up to either take up some space, get in the way, and maybe kill a few things.  The 3 Contemptors are due to having access to plastic kits and the fact they stand back up after getting shot in the face by all those pesky Knights, Aeldari, and Lord of Skull nonsense that could show up.

But this is a fully plastic army and lets you utilize that cool Vindicare that came out from the first Warhammer + set all those many moons ago.  I went with all Spears too as the -2 AP seems like a better deal than hitting on a 3+ for a 3 damage attack.
