Games Workshop: No Pre-Orders But The World Eaters & Death Guard Arrive

It’s a big weekend for Chaos Fans. The Death Guard and World Eaters are landing at your FLGS and Warhammer stores!
This weekend we don’t have any new Pre-Orders from Games Workshop. Personally, I’m okay with this bit of a break in the action. If you want to see what’s actually supposed to show up in stores, we covered that all last week. While you might not get to snag a Battleforce, odds are good you’ll still be able to find a new codex or Combat Patrol for your respective army. And you did check with your FLGS to pre-order those, right?!
Anyhow, even without any new pre-orders, I did still want to point you towards some helpful information in regards to these two armies. I’m split these up in to their two respective armies to help keep things straight. Let’s just go alphabetical so Death Guard is up first.
Death Guard
Top 5 Things About Codex: Death Guard
This one is a rundown from Thomas, aka Goatboy, about the things he liked in Codex: Death Guard. There’s lots to like and it’s a nice overview of the army. He also goes into more detail about specifics it you want to really dig into the Death Guard.
Death Guard Detachment Previews
This one covers the general army rule as well as showing off a few teasers from the Death Guard codex directly from Games Workshop. If you’re still exploring if this army is for you then check out these rules first.
Death Guard (and World Eaters) Daemon Detachments
The Death Guard are allied with Nurgle for obvious reasons. That said, in the new codex, you’ll be able to bring in basically half of your points as Chaos Daemons. This article covers both those options and their benefits for the Death Guard and World Eaters.
Death Guard & World Eaters Character Previews
So both the Death Guard and World Eaters are each getting a new Character. This article covers the basics of each. It’s a good read to check if they are going to fit into the version of their respective army you want to build. Personally, I think the Lord of Poxes is a better “generic” hero for the Death Guard than the Slaughterbound is for the World Eaters. Don’t get it twisted though, the Slaughterbound is good at what he’s designed to do — but he fits better with specific World Eater army builds.
World Eaters
Top 5 Things About Codex: World Eaters 2.0
This one is from Goatboy again. And, once again, it’s a list of the things he liked about the army as well as a good overall primer. He’s got those specific examples that he digs into as well. It’s a good read for getting a feel for the army.
World Eaters Detachment Previews
This one goes into the previews from GW directly related to the World Eaters non-daemon detachments. It touches on the army rule (which didn’t change too much from the Index). It’s worth reading if you’re waiting on your codex or on the fence for starting a World Eaters army.
More World Eaters Previews & Breakdowns – Tournament Player Edition
Games Works took a rare move with this one. They actually got a tournament veteran to write up their thoughts on the new World Eaters and even provided a pair of example army lists, too. If you’re a serious World Eaters player (or want to be one) then you want to check this one out for sure.
Lord Invocatus’ Rodeo! – Goatboy’s World Eaters List
Speaking of Tournament Player lists, Goatboy also has a taste for the World Eaters and wrote up his thoughts on the army. He’s got a slightly different slant to things but it’s short look into how his brain works for list building. Reader be warned. (hehe, love you Thomas!)
3 Big Misses From Codex: World Eaters
The World Eaters Codex isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, folks. Or maybe skulls and gorestorms…you know what I mean. There’s a few things that Goatboy really wanted to see that seem to be lacking in the new book, too.
Pricing Out A ‘Games Workshop’ World Eaters Army
And finally this is an article that will make your wallet cry. As a thought experiment, I broke down the costs of actually buying a new World Eaters army from scratch based on the GW prices. I tried to look for deals from them directly where I could. The results aren’t pretty as things get expensive quick. But I did learn a few things along the way.
Hopefully next week we’ll be back with more Pre-order from GW. Until then… happy chaos times!
