Reconquer Earth!  How to start building a Dropzone Commander UCM army!

Note: Army lists were made with Fighting Forces of the Reconquest

One of the strengths of a UCM army is that they are relatively low-costed compared to the Shaltari and PHR and they have many different units.  This gives you tremendous flexibility in building lists.

“Starter Box”
Clash: 995/1000 points
Standard Army
    Standard Roster [995/1000 pts]
        Field Command [275 pts]
            Kodiak: Kodiak(Squad Leader) [143 pts]
Praetorians: 2x Praetorians, Raven A(+Missile Pods) [132 pts]
        Armored Formation [328 pts]
Sabre Squad: 3x Sabre, Condor(+Missile Pods) [152 pts]
Rapier Squad: 3x Rapier, Condor(+Missile Pods) [176 pts]
        Legionnaire Corps [325 pts]
            Legionnaires: 2x Legionnaires, Raven A [80 pts]
            Legionnaires: 2x Legionnaires, Raven A [80 pts]
            Ferrum: Ferrum [165 pts]
        Air Wing [67 pts]
            Archangel Squad: Archangel [67 pts]

“Starter Box – Fireblade Variant”
Clash: 993/1000 points
Standard Army
    Standard Roster [993/1000 pts]
        Field Command [308 pts]

          Kodiak: Kodiak(Squad Leader) [143 pts]
            Ferrum: Ferrum [165 pts]
        Armored Formation [279 pts]
Fireblade Squad: 3x Fireblade, Condor(+Missile Pods) [137 pts]
Sabre Squad: 3x Sabre, Condor [142 pts]
        Legionnaire Corps [160 pts]
            Legionnaires: 2x Legionnaires, Raven A [80 pts]
            Legionnaires: 2x Legionnaires, Raven A [80 pts]
        Legionnaire Corps [246 pts]
            Legionnaires: 2x Legionnaires, Raven A [80 pts]
Rapier Squad: 3x Rapier, Condor [166 pts]

In the above two lists, we use a lot of models from the Starter box but here are some general thoughts…

Kodiak: With its E13 (Tactical Orbital Strike) and the ability to strike anywhere on the board, one can be tempted to go after “big” targets; however, AA units are usually our priority because we have found that people tend to go light on AA and losing these AA units are usually more “felt” by our opponents.

Ferrum: As we have discussed in prior articles, in the game of Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock, anytime a unit can attack everything effectively or serve multiple roles, it’s MVP material.  The Starsprite Drones wreck havoc on light dropships and are great against skimmers (who usually have weaker armor than other MBTs (main battle tanks)).  The ability to generate fighting resources for free can not be overestimated!

Sabres + Condor: With articulated fire, you can drop off your Sabres and land your Condor in front of them allowing “articulated” fire over the Condor while receiving “hull down” (+2 Ac) if the enemy decides to fire back at your Sabres.

Fireblade/Praetorians: Legionnaires die to a stiff breeze and you need flame units or exotics to ensure that you can win CQB (Close Quarter Battle) and claim objectives!

Raven Light Dropships: Since you can move infantry into buildings from transports (within 1″) and vice versa, Ravens can help your mobility dramatically especially in missions like Recon.

Archangel: While UCM has a dedicated air-to-ground Fast Mover in the Seraphim, the Archangel (2x E7) is a cost effective air-to-air Fast Mover.
