The fleets from Star Wars: Rebels  come alive on the table top!

With the release of Armada Wave V and the Phoenix Home expansion we are at least able to bring the fleets from the Star Wars: Rebels TV show to life.  Now I love theme lists, I think they add a lot of fun to pick up games, and allow players to really use some of their creative juices.  I am very excited that with Wave V as we finally have enough options to build some really great theme lists. Of course with the wave’s focus on big ships from Star Wars: Rebels the obvious choice was to recreate the Rebel fleet from the show. The fleet I have chosen to build is based off of the fleet that we see at the end of the season and the start of the second. You can see most of the fleet in this picture:

In all it’s glory!

I’ve tried to stick to using characters that are in the show and have hopefully kept the feel of the show in the list.   I also wanted to pick missions that reflect things we see them do in the show. So lets go head and take a look at the list.

The List

What it Represents

The Three Amigos!

So obviously I built the list around the Phoenix Home ( a Pelta Command Ship) and the three CR90s we see in the picture. These ships make up the core of the Rebels fleet. In addition it wouldn’t be the Rebels fleet without the A-wings of Phoenix Squadron and Hera leading them in the Ghost. I wanted to include a good number of them with out going over board.  For a little extra kick I threw in one B-Wing to represent the special one that Hera and Sabine fly in Season 2 Episode 7 “Wings of the Master”. While I know that the B-wing joins after the loss of the Phoenix Home I still wanted to include it to mix the fleet up a bit.

Makes you wonder why all B-Wings aren’t this good.

For characters I figured I would include the ones who tended to show up on the show. Of course the fleet is lead by Commander Sato, and Ahsoka is supporting them from the flagship. In addition the lovable rogue Lando, who has shown up here and there on the show, is helping out. I figured that the Phoenix groups CR90s might be a little more battle ready then the say the Tantive IV, a consular ship from an unarmed world, so I gave them spinal armaments and reinforced blast doors to represent this. Lastly the flagship is equipped to do rapid fighter launches, something we see on the show, and has a crew trained to help get ever ounce of speed out of the ship they can.

The brilliant tactical commander of the Rebel fleet

For missions I picked ones that represent typical Rebel tasks. Blockade Running is done several times on the show, such as in Season 2, Episode 7. Salvage Runs are also a stable of the show, such as Season 3, Episode 6. Hyperspace Assaults are also launched several times in the show, including one  by the fleet shown here in Season 1, Episode 15.

Using the Fleet

The real power of the fleet

I designed this fleet more with it’s theme in mind than with the aim of being the best fleet. However I do think it can be an OK fleet if used right. The main striking power of the fleet is going to be the CR90s, which, with their upgrades, should hit pretty hard and be hard to kill. The goal is to keep the CR90s at long range and send red dice attacks down range, then use Sato, and some close in A-wings, to change those dice to power black dice. The fleet doesn’t really take great advantage of Sato, but thematically he had to be in it, and hopefully the fast A-wings will let you get some use of him. Most of the fighters should be able to be controlled by either the Phoenix Home or made rogues by Hera.

Challenge: can you pull this off in a game?

Outside of that the fleet is mostly straight forward. Stay at long range and try to outlast the enemy, while your fighters take out his and support your attacks. In addition The Blast Doors and Shields to Maximum should make your CR90s more survivable than normal, and Lando might help the flagship survive an unlucky hit.  Most of the missions you have favor the flexible Rebel fleets, so use that to your advantage. If you wanted I’m sure a few tweaks could improve the lists power.  Lastly remember this fleet is based on a theme, so just have some fun!
