Eleven’s past at the Hawkins National Labaratory is returning in season four.

The last we saw the gang Joyce, Will, and Elle were leaving Hawkins, and Hopper was in some bizarre Soviet Era, Siberian prison. We’ll see how the characters rally to fight against, and maybe stop, the powers that keep opening the portal and letting the Upside Down through to Earth. The Duffer Brothers couldn’t leave that plotline from season three just hanging there.

It’s been over a year since fans have seen anything from the next season. The first teaser let us know that Hopper lives…

Today’s teaser revealed a little bit more. Season four is bringing back at least one character that we haven’t seen in a while. The latest teaser takes us back to the Hawkins National Laboratory run by Dr. Martin Brenner – where the stolen children were experimented on. This does appear to be a flashback, but that doesn’t rule out the possibility of Brenner returning to the current timeline.

Matthew Modine, the actor behind Dr. Brenner, hinted at that possibility in an interview with NME.

“I love that the fans are trying to figure out where Dr. Brenner is because we’re all wondering, you know, is he in the Upside Down? Did the demogorgon drag him away? Is he going to re-emerge? And the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, have said that unless you see a body, the character’s not dead. And obviously, we never saw Dr. Brenner’s body.”

The Duffers have said that there will be an ancient evil arriving this season that ties everything together. I’m hoping that means this season will wrap the story up. Four seasons is a good run for a show like this – stretching it too much could make the story become repetitious and dull. Stranger Things deserves a good ending.

Robert Englund, Jamie Campbell Bower, Tom Wlaschiha, Nikola Djuricko, Joseph Quinn, Sherman Augustus, and Mason Dye are joining the regular cast. The new season doesn’t have a release date, but Finn Wolfhard (plays Mike Wheeler) has said not to expect it till next year.
