Cal Kestis and company have had enough of running from the Empire.

Cal Kestis has been through a lot since Order 66 completely turned his life upside down.  He lost his Jedi Master, his skills, and any chance of just living what could be considered a normal life under the Empire. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order had him fight to reclaim his Jedi mastery after accidentally outing he could wield the Force to save his friend’s life. This one moment ignited an adventure of him being hunted by Inquisitors while he searched for a secret Jedi Holocron containing the names of Force-sensitive people across the galaxy. He was helped along the way by a former Jedi Master, a pilot, a plucky little droid, and a Nightsister.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place 5 years after Cal concluded his mission and barely got away from the Empire. Now a full-fledged Jedi Knight, Cal finds himself once again on the run in a brand-new trailer.

Jedi vs the Galaxy

A brand-new trailer was released by the official EA Star Wars YouTube channel after teasing something new on the official Star Wars Twitter. The trailer has Cal reuniting with old friends in search of a home where he and his found family will no longer be hunted by the Empire. Life on the run and battling the Empire at every turn would get tiring and Cal is starting to feel it. The Nightsister Mirren ominously warns Cal that finding comfort in the warmth of fire is great, but if left unchecked, it will rampage and destroy. She seems to be telling Cal to find what he seeks, just don’t let that “fire” consume him whole and destroy what he has.

“The dark times are closing in as Cal Kestis seeks out a safe haven far from the reach of the Empire. Follow Cal and his crew’s increasingly desperate fight as the galaxy descends further into darkness.”

In the middle of all this, Cal has old and new enemies to deal with like the Empire and Bedlam Raiders. One of the new antagonists looks to be the man trapped in a Bacta Tank at the beginning of the reveal trailer three months ago. He is seen wearing Jedi High Republic robes with a lightsaber and chastising Cal for the Jedi letting the Empire win. Could he really be a Jedi from that time and if so, why is he alive?

AI Companions

The best thing the trailer shows off more of is the AI Companions who will be assisting the player this time around. Mirren was underutilized in the last game and I am incredibly happy to see she will be a major player in this one. She uses a staff and her own Force-sensitive skills to keep herself safe and the game shows off a really cool team takedown between the 2. Bode Akuna is also shown a bit more as a new member of the crew with a jetpack and dual blast pistols like a Star Wars-themed Rocketeer. He was first shown during the reveal trailer as well and it seems he too will be an AI companion. There is a pretty fun team takedown seen in the trailer with them as well against a K-2SO.

I liked the first game a lot and the story really hooked me more than the gameplay since I thought it was not fully optimized just yet at the time. Sequels usually fix any gameplay issues with the first one and I can’t wait to see how the game feels this time around with AI backup this time. The story is also very promising since it can be its own thing as long as it doesn’t overstep and make itself ridiculous like the Star Wars Force Unleashed games plots did.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor releases on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on April 28th.
