The community is wondering exactly where this year’s big Age of Sigmar expansion is. But it may be just around the corner.

With the mystery delay with Sylvaneth, and the slow rollout of Contrast, folks are getting a little skittish about upcoming GW releases. The wallets are willing, but SKUs are moving onto shelves unusually slowly right now. The kickoff of Summer is usually a very busy time for GW, when they are launching 1-2 big popular releases to give customers something to do during their vacations.

The big release for Age of Sigmar Players (outside of Svlaneth) is this year’s General’s Handbook 2019.

Here are some details on the release:

The Reveal

GW unveiled this year’s handbook just 3 weeks back on May 11th at their latest seminar.

We got glimpses of the contents for the 3 modes of play, and a shot at the cover. Normally items shown in GW seminars are released within 2 months.

Here’s the images we got:

The new General’s Handbook has a ton of goodies for all types of player. First off, Open Play is getting a new “Open War army generator” that will help you put together an army in minutes. There will also be a new batch of Hidden Agendas to play around with and hints at new “close-quarters battles” as well.

Narrative players will be able to tackle the new Streets of Death rules and fight block-by-block in the cities and ruins of the Mortal Realms. New Mercenary Companies will allow you to add some thematic units to your armies in a narrative-led game. And the GHB 2019 will also have a name generator for your use in narrative games!

As for Matched Play, well aside from getting pitched battle points updated, get ready for loads of goodies. New battleplans are just the tip of the iceberg. You’ll also get a new way to play smaller, 1000-point games targeted at tournaments and competitive play. These smaller games will balanced around 1,000 points and are known as Meeting Engagements. Faster games and less space is perfect for getting started or running multiple rounds really quickly.

Last Year’s Comparison

Lat year, the General’s Handbook 2018 came out on June 14th.  Because GW release dates are always Saturdays, things don’t line up year-to-year to the day, but mid-June is next week.  I would expect that GW has planned to keep to the same schedule if possible. Everybody cross your fingers and see what we see announced over the weekend.

We are going to find out in the next few days if whatever happened to Sylvaneth is a one-time thing, or if it looks like something bigger and more long term is going on.

~Fingers crossed.
