Star Wars: The Year’s Best Reveals

Fan favorite characters, theme park sneak peaks, and announcements of seemingly endless entertainment to come made 2020 a pretty great year for Star Wars.

Investor Day’s Many Announcements

While some of these were a surprise and some we had known about to some degree for some time, December’s Investor Day brought a flurry of new shows and movies for us to look forward to in the coming years. Included in this list are Rogue Squadron, Andor, Kenobi, Ahsoka, Lando, and The Bad Batch, but these were far from the only announcements.

Ahsoka Is Apparently On The Hunt For Thrawn

In one of my personal favorite story expanding name drops of The Mandalorian this season, Ahsoka Tano announced her interest in finding everyone’s favorite art appreciating foe, Grand Admiral Thrawn. He, along with Ezra Bridger, disappeared with a bunch of space faring star whales in towards the end of Rebels and have been one of the biggest unsolved mysteries of the current Star Wars canon. But this one line implies pretty strongly that we’ll be seeing one if not both of them as live action characters before too long.

Disney’s Galactic Starcruiser Sneak Peak

Disney’s hotel slash spaceship slash immersive two day adventure story has been a well known addition to the parks for a little while now, but 2020 finally gifted us with some pictures of what this experience will actually look like. While the price point is a little steep, and I’ll be the first to admit that it feels weird to think about gathering with a lot of strangers ever again, this entire experience looks very very cool and I look forward to maybe saving up enough credits to check it out one day.

Mando S3 AND Book of Boba Fett

While The Mandalorian’s third season did get a nod during Investor Day, a season finale post credit scene let us know that there was one more surprise hidden up Disney’s massive sleeve with the Book of Boba Fett. Both were slated to come out in December of 2021 leading some to wonder if Mando is being replaced by Boba Fett or if the two are being combined in some way, but it seems that both are here to stay and we have two rad shows to look forward to in just about a year. We can’t wait to see what Boba and Fennec are up to.

Grogu

So much happened with the child this year between watching his force powers grow, to seeking out a Jedi master for him, and learning exactly how far he’ll go for snack time. But the most fandom stirring moment of the season may been when Ahsoka let all of us and Din know that the child’s name is actually Grogu. If you’re personally still calling him Baby Yoda, don’t worry, even Jon Favreau says sticking to the fan given nickname is A-Ok. But within the story it’s been pretty clear that Grogu prefers to hear his name. Another moment that I hope to see more of as the galaxy continues to unfold are the implications of Moff Gideon obtaining Grogu’s blood and exactly what or who he’s trying to clone. My money is on this being a precursor to Snoke, but only time will tell.

What were your favorite Star Wars moments and reveals of 2020? What are you most looking forward to seeing happen in the galaxy in 2021 and beyond? Which upcoming show do you think is most hotly anticipated? Let us know in the comments!
