The stars of Netflix’s ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ are talking about how different this series will be – and how wild.

Mike Flanagan’s The Fall of the House of Usher is a remix of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic plus other works, including The Raven. Details are slim right now outside of the cast, which features familiar faces from Flanagan’s other projects. Bruce Greenwood is playing the towering patriarch of the Usher dynasty, Roderick Usher, and Mary McDonnell will play Madeline Usher. Other cast members include Mark Hamill, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Zach Gilford, and Carla Gugino in undisclosed roles.

On the familiar face list is Rahul Kohli, who described the series in an interview with Empire: “it’s bonkers, loud, in-your-face; very different from everything else Mike’s done.” Zach Gilford (who played lead Riley Finn in Midnight Mass) agreesHe spoke with ComicBook about the upcoming anthology.

“This one, it’s like candy… I always say Midnight Mass was a seven-hour movie, and it wasn’t a miniseries, where each episode has something. It’s like, no, it’s just seven hours that they broke into seven segments. This one, it starts fast and loud. It’s just like, each episode, it just ramps up and ramps up and ramps up. I remember reading the scripts, I was like, ‘What the f-ck? It’s going to be fun.”

He also talked up showrunner Mike Flanagan.

“Obviously, I’m fortunate to work with Mike and to have worked with him so many times. But also, in the sense of each project’s been so different, which just gives you even more respect for him as a filmmaker and a collaborator. He’s so prepared and comes in, everything’s shot-listed, but he’s also so down to completely change it if you have an idea that wasn’t something he thought of. He’s like, ‘Cool, great. That makes it better. Let’s do it.'”

When Does Fall of the House of Usher Debut?

There’s no release date yet, but principal filming wrapped last July, so we’ll likely see it before the end of the year. Including it in this year’s Halloween releases makes the most sense. Netflix confirmed that the series will be self-contained like Flanagan’s other series, which means we can expect 8-10 sixty-minute episodes.

For me, Flanagan’s work has been hit or miss. I enjoyed Midnight Mass and The Midnight Club but was bored and frustrated with Haunting at Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. I’m not sure about this Poe remix, but I’m keeping an open mind. Let’s hope for something good, shall we?
